Phoenix has never been better in this odd love story as Eddie Birdlace. It starts with a game called Dogfight and the rules are simple, everyone puts in fifty dollars then the guy with the worst looking date wins the Dogfight. Eddie and his group of fellow Marines are in San Francisco getting tattoos, drinking and having fun with girls. This is a movie full of personal drama and also related to the Vietnam war in the 60s. Phoenix and Taylor are simply terrific in their roles and on screen chemistry together. With a fabulous story, soundtrack, script and actors this is a romance and drama that cannot be missed.
